The BDPL held a Charity Melee on 10th September 2023 at Chequers in Great Tey, where the winners were to chose a charity for the entry fees to be donated to. There were twelve teams taking part including two juniors and several new players. Simon Bird did his ‘magic draw’ making sure that new players were paired with those with more experience.
The winners of the main were Richard Evans and Mike Greatorex (new player having only played in one melee previously). I think we will be seeing more of him. The runners up were Angie Nicholson and Chris Parr.
The winners of of the plate were Zoe Preston and Dave Pearse with Ian Barnes and David Lewis (never having played before) as runners up.
The BDPL donated the prizes of wine and Carol and Ian donated the chocolates for the plate and sweets for the juniors. Terry, the landlord, kindly donated a voucher for a ‘meal at the Chequers’ which was raffled with the proceeds going to a Parkinson’s charity. The winners also requested the entry fees go to a Parkinson’s Charity and a cheque for £151 will be forwarded.
It was lovely sunny, fun and a not too serious day.
