Membership

Individual membership is open to pétanque players of all ages and abilities. There are two types of membership:

  • Adults – members who are 18 years and older on the 31st December of the current year.
  • Juniors – members under 18 years old on the 31st December of the current year.

The membership period is from 1st April to 31st March. However, when joining after October 1st the subscription will carry through to the end of the following year.  Renewal notices are sent to members in January each year and they can renew their membership any time between 1st January and 31st March.

Individual Membership of Pétanque England is administered locally by our 17 Regions. The regional boundaries are based loosely on County lines although there are some overlaps. Each Region sets its own regional fee for adult membership, which is collected by PE as a precept. The Regional precept is added to the current National fee to make the total fee due to join Pétanque England and the Region. A list of regions showing their fees and membership secretary contact is shown on the Pétanque England website.

Pétanque players who do not belong to a PE member club are welcome to join as independent members in their local Region and have the same rights as club members.

Honorary Life Membership is awarded by the Pétanque England Board to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to our sport.

Membership Benefits

Pétanque England (PE) is the officially recognised National Governing Body for the sport of pétanque in England and we are also members of Sport England and the Sports and Recreation Alliance.

Internationally we are affiliated to a worldwide network of national federations through the European Confederation of Pétanque (CEP – led by our former National President, Mike Pegg) and the International Federation of Pétanque and Provençal Games (FIPJP).

The sport of pétanque was officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee in 1986, and the FIPJP is a founding member of the World Confederation of Boules Sports (CMSB) which brings together a number of boules-related sports campaigning for inclusion in the Olympic Games.

PE offers membership to both clubs and individuals. We encourage all individual members to join one of our clubs, who in turn are members of one of our 17 geographical regions, although it is possible to join us without joining a club or region.

Insurance Cover

All PE members, clubs and officials benefit from insurance cover as part of our membership benefits package.

The liability insurance you receive as an affiliated constituent of Pétanque England protects you if you are held responsible and are negligent for causing injury to a third party or have caused damage to a third party’s property, whilst involved in Pétanque and other recognised activities of Pétanque England.

Affiliated coaches, officials and members also benefit from Personal Accident insurance. This is a ‘no fault’ benefit that provides a specified amount to a member if they are injured whilst participating in recognised Pétanque England activities.

The PE insurance cover is arranged via Bluefin Sport with Sportscover Europe Ltd.
