The ECR IWD Women’s Doubles was held today (Sunday 15th March 2025) at Rayne Swan PC. 9 teams attended.
Each team had 3 matches before lunch which ended with the top team Epping PC with Jane Tembey and Mandy Cruden with 3 wins. Epping and Maldon mix pair, Shirley Haines, Epping and Carole Walpole-Lawson, Maldon, were in second place. The Towers and Ongar’s mix of Jean Wilmot and Carolyn Innocent were in third place.
The Gold knockout after lunch, took place with the Semi-finalists Epping against Vivien Middleton-Sams and Dee Austin (Rayne Swan) and Shirley and Carole (Maldon/Epping) against the Towers Ongar team, Carolyn and Jean. These were 2 close matches with the finalists Rayne Swan with Vivien and Dee and Carolyn and Jean competing in the final. The final was won by Carolyn (Ongar PC) and Jean (Towers PC). Both these finalists will compete in the IWD Champion of Champions on 7th June in Whitnash.
The Silver semi-finalists were Carol Gadzhov & Sue Monk (Towers), versus Karen Wade & Lesley Ingram (Bocking); Angie Nicholson & Ellie French (Colne Con Club) versus Karen Mills & Sue Ettrich (Totham Swan). The final was played between Angie & Ellie, versus Karen & Lesley. Winners were Angie & Ellie (Colne Con Club). Thanks to Viv for umpiring.
