Minutes of the Eastern Counties Region Petanque Meeting
held at The Victorians P.C. on Saturday 6th February 2010


Present: President Trevor Blows, Vice President Eric Taylor, Coach Simon Bird, PRO Clare Courtney,

Secretary Vivien Middleton-Sams, YDO Brenda Wilmot, Ivor bell, Robert Weston,
Aris Savvides and Dave Tarling

1. Apologies for absence: Bob Parker and Chris Parr

2. The Minutes of the last meeting 5th September 2009 These were proposed and accepted as a true and honest record

3. Reports.

President:
Trevor said he had very little to report following on from the AGM in December and the quiet season in Petanque. He was pleased with the growing number of junior players in the region.

The paperwork for the Regional qualifiers will be out soon and the licence forms were being issued now. The licence fee will remain the same as last year.

Secretary:
Vivien reported that the National competition rules had been posted on the EPA web site.

There is a junior competition at Whittlesey

Jonathon Sewell is trying to get a working group together to decide on future membership of the EPA.

Venues for the regional competitions were discussed and Eric showed photos of the Brentwood leisure centre. He will contact the EPA to see if they are interested in it as a venue.

Potters Bar (TTA) Petanque Club have changed their name to Potters Bar Players.

Membership Secretary’s Report:
Licence forms are in the process of being issued for 2010 The cost remains £14 for adults. Please make cheques payable to ECRP.

Regional Coach:
Simon said he had nothing to report except there will be a coaching commission meeting which he will attend on 20th February 2010.

PRO:
Clare reported that Sible Hedingham Parish Council are building a Piste as reported in the newspaper. It was stated that it was the first in the Braintree area. She had written to the newspaper & the parish council telling them of the BDPL and she had had a response back.

Ivor and Clare are putting on the website a section of ‘Getting to Know you’ so players can learn a bit more about each other.

Ivor needs a list of past winners for the site.

Youth Development Officer:
Brenda said the four juniors who went to Whittlesey in November learnt a lot. It was said that the new junior Josh from Rayne had beaten Frank Britt in the singles in the league and looks very promising as a future member of the region.

Brenda will sort out junior teams for the Whittlesey competition and the junior GP’s. The junior participation in the adult regional qualifiers was discussed and it was agreed that we will check the number of entries from the adults before a decision is made. Simon will organise a junior singles competition.

4. Venues:
For the Inter-Region competition Qualifiers

1st    Rayne swan    25th April

2nd    Victorians    13th June

3rd     Rayne Swan    11th July

It was decided to keep the last date even though it is the football World Cup Final Day. If England is in the final then we will start play earlier.

For other competitions

Singles    Towers    12th September

Triples    Bocking    16th May    ( cost to contact Trevor Turner for estimate) need licence forms as want to register now.

Doubles    Onley/Stisted Village hall    1st August    (cost £40 hire of hall + £100 wood for edging terrain)

Junior singles    tba     29th May

5. Any Other Business
The Regional qualifying rules were discussed. Trevor will re issue and circulate the new ones.

National Ladies competitions. It was decided to lend any lady who wishes to play, a Regional shirt. We could have four teams in the region this year. Brenda will organise this.

Clare said there was now a Rayne Swan website and anyone may join. Towers and Epping have their own sites already.

Life membership was discussed and three names were proposed and agreed for sending to national – Peter Ward, Simon Bird, and Bob Wilmot.

Regional Team strip was discussed and Vivien will get a price for, fleeces, body warmer and jerkins. It is proposed that anyone could buy these, but the polo-shirt would remain as a prize for qualifying for the Inter-regional competition.

As there was no further business the meeting was closed.
