Ladies Top 16, 22nd May

The Ladies last 16 took place on Sunday at the newly formed Nottingham City Petanque Club and unfortunately the ECR ladies progress in the competition came to an end.
The team from Towers and Victorians had an unlucky start to the day, drawing two strong Kent teams in the morning session. They then had a bye and a 13-7 win. The team of Dawn Bourquin (Victorians), Pauline Taylor and Jeanette Mills from Towers PC, then played a team from East Midlands and had an excellent 13-2 win. This was unfortunately followed by a complete reversal against a Northern team, losing 13-2.
The second ECR team of Viv Middleton-Sams, Tracey Austin, Wendy Ridehalgh and Myra Huntley (Chiltern), had high hopes after their good performance in the first qualifier in Kent but it was not to be. It was one of those days where nothing went right and although there were some good points, there wasn’t one game where all played well at the same time. In the first game against Southern they were 11-7 down and gained a great 5 on one end to go 12-11 up but still lost out 13-12. The second game against W. Mids was also a close game but they lost13-10 after the opposition moved the coche and gained a 4. There was no improvement in the afternoon, losing to E. Mids and another W. Mids team, the only consolation was a bye and a 13-7 win.
Kim Lachani’s team started well with wins over E. & W.Mids but they fell away as the day went on.
Let’s hope next year they can all get back to their winning ways.
