The second Eastern Counties Region qualification event took place at the Victoria PH, Theydon Bois.
In glorious sunshine, the Victorians 1 team of Phil McCrostie, Andy Wilmot, Dave Tarling and Francois Bourquin, made good use of home advantage, winning all their games to stay top of the table with ten wins overall. Meat and Wheat (Keith Flack, Dean Little and Gus Garland) dropped a single game to stay on nine wins along with Vajazzled who had five wins on the day. Chequers from Gt Tey needed a last game win over Victorians 2 to make it eight wins as they lost back to back games either side of lunch.
Big movers on the day were Campetanque. Chris Butcher, Andy Butcher and Paul O’Connor gained five excellent wins to take them to fifth place.
The rest of the mid table teams shuffled places. Four wins for Towers from Brentwood takes them to six wins while Onley (Stisted), Elan (Kent), Victorians 2 and Charters (Whittlesey) are grouped on five wins after a day of mixed fortunes.
Angel (Earls Colne) had two wins on the day to take them to four overall while newcomers Bocking (Dave Adams, Trevor Turner and Malcolm Smith) claimed two wins to keep them in the last qualifying position. Trailing at present are Rayne Swan, Feering, Thorley A and B, who hold the bottom four positions, just outside the qualification places.
