EPA Triples at Bury St. Edmunds on Sunday 25th July
The English Triples Champions for 2010 are local players Simon
Bird (Colne Angel), Adam Buxton and Vince Schofield (Rayne Swan) who triumphed against strong
opposition at Bury St. Edmunds on Sunday.
The trio won their group in the morning competition and kept their form in the afternoon KO stages.
In the quarter finals they defeated a strong Kent team 13-6 and the semi finals saw them go 11-5
down against a team from Anglia region. A switch in team order saw the Eastern Region players get
back into the game and go on to win 13-11.
In the final they came up against Ben Gallimore (Chiltern), John Edmondson and Joe Sheffield from
East Midlands who had reached the final with an excellent win over the number one team of Lee and
Ashley Jamieson and Matt Eversden.
The teams were evenly matched in the opening stages but some excellent shooting by Buxton saw the
Eastern Region team gradually pull away to win 13-8 and be crowned champions.
The Eastern Region also had representatives in the Plate final. Keith Flack, Dean Little and
Nic Baxter only just missed out in qualifying for the main competition by one point, but did
well to reach the plate final by beating a team from Southern region in the Q/F and their own
team mates, Dean Middleton, Colin Sams and Clare Courtney in the semis. Unfortunately they came
unstuck in the final where they lost to Adrian Emson, Myra & Jeremy Huntley from the Chiltern
region.
