The ECR’s only representatives at the EPA National Titles weekend on the I.O.W were Dean Little & Keith Flack, who were attempting to retain their doubles title, and Jane Tanburn & David Cracknell.

Little & Flack had 4 good wins with scores of 13-1, 13-2 (twice) & 13-6 but unfortunately lost 13-10 to John Edmondson & Joe Sheffield (E.Midlands). At the start of play it was announced there would be 6 rounds, but at the end of the 5th round the goalposts were moved and it was decided the top two teams would play off for the title as they both had 5 wins apiece. Who knows, if there had been a 6th round and the ECR pair had another good win, they could have been in contention and had a chance to defend their title, but as it turned out they finished in 7th place.

Tanburn & Cracknell also played in the doubles but unfortunately were unsuccessful, finishing 53 out of 54 teams.
They did slightly better in the mixed doubles finishing 44th out of 46 and gaining one win. They both did quite well in the singles though, with Tanburn winning 3 of her 6 games and finishing 55th out of 83, a whole 16 places above Cracknell in 71st with 2 wins. I’m sure that alone would have put a smile on Jane’s face!
