Last weekend the EPA Champion of Champions tournament took place at Bury St Edmunds and the top
teams from around the regions took part.
The doubles took place on Saturday and most of the EPA regions were represented with 19 teams
taking part. They were divided up into two pools and 5 rounds in a snake format were played.
The Eastern Counties region team of Sofiane Lachani and Simon Bird were in pool A.
They started with a bye followed by wins over Anglia, West Midlands, Thames Valley and Chiltern to
top the group and progress into the semi finals. There they defeated London region 13-9.
In the final they met the strong East Midlands team of Joe Sheffield and John Edmondson but even
they could not stop their progress and the ECR boys won 13-7.
Lachani also represented the region in the shooting competition and easily retained his crown with
a winning score of 34 points.
His nearest rival was Dean Seville from Southern region with 25 points.
The Eastern Counties region had two teams in the EPA Champion of Champions triples on the Sunday.
Eastern 1, Frank Britt (Chequers PC) Adam Buxton and Vince Schofield (Rayne Swan) had a day of
near misses, winning two games, against Anglia 13-4 and Thames Valley 13-5, but losing three
to 12,11 and 10 respectively to just miss out on the semi finals.
Eastern 2, Trevor Blows (Onley Arms), Simon Bird (Colne Angel) and Lorne Gibson (Rayne Swan) started
well beating Northern 13-5 and a strong West Midlands side 13-8. The morning session ended with
a 13-10 loss to East Midlands, who had led 9-0 after three ends. After lunch, two more wins over
Thames Valley (13-0) and Kent (13-10) put them top of league two and a semi-final place against
home side Anglia. A 6-0 lead was given away and points traded to 10-10. ECR took advantage of an
open head to take three points and a place in the final. London (Rowland, Yuseef and Mehdi) proved
too strong in the final, winning 13-1 but the ECR team performed well enough to have won more
points. Still a great day for the ECR who beat some very strong teams to make the final.
