EPA Triples Top 16 8th June
The last 16 playoffs of the EPA Triples took place at Harrow and the
Eastern Counties Region was represented by 3 teams who had fought their way through the 3 qualifying
tournaments.
Lying in 3rd place were Dean Little, Keith Flack & Seetahul Dinesh . They did not start too well with
a 13-10 loss against a team from West Midlands but made amends against an East Midlands team by
winning 13-8.
They followed this up with a good 13-2 defeat of Gooda, Howard & Marston, a Chiltern/Northern
combination. Unfortunately they then lost to a strong I.O.W team 13-7 which meant they dropped down
to 8th place.
Starting in 4th place Chris Allen, Vanessa Webb & Sofiane Lachani, ably assisted by Nic Baxter from
Kent, had a great start to the day winning against East Midlands 13-10, our own Buxton, Mark, Bird &
Schofield 13-4 and then the 2 top ranked teams of Hickman, Spillet, Bruce & Blakely (Kent) 13-10 &
13-11 against Baker, Roussaeu, Bavazzano & Claydon, which saw them into top spot.
In 10th place out of the 16 teams were Adam Buxton, Vince Schofield, Dave Mark & Simon Bird. They
defeated Brousson, Elcombe & Hill in their first game 13-9 but then lost 13-4 to Allen, Webb, Lachani
& Baxter & 13-7 to I.O.W.
They did manage to finish with a win against Emson, Huntley & Huntley from Chiltern to move up to
6th place.
The top 8 teams then went into the KO stages, which meant our 3 ECR teams were still in with a chance
of representing Great Britain at the World Championships.
Unfortunately 2 of them met in the 1st round which dashed one teams hopes straight away, and that was
the team of Little, Flack & Dinesh. They went down fighting though and only just lost out 13-12 to
Allen, Webb, Lachani & Baxter.
Meanwhile Schofield, Buxton, Bird & Mark were comfortably beaten by Hickman, Spillet, Bruce & Blakely
(Kent) 13-3 which ended their excellent run.
This left Allen, Webb & Lachani as our last representatives, but not for long. They were defeated
13-9 by Matt Eversden, Ben Gallimore, Robert Silvy & Stephen Zimmerman from Chiltern/W.Midlands who
also went on to beat Baker, Roussaeu, Bavazzano & Claydon 13-6 in the final, so well done to them,
and very well done to our three teams who did so well to finish in 1st, 6th & 8th in the top 8 teams
in England.
