Eastern Counties Region players have performed superbly at the recent English Petanque Association Triples qualifier held at Bury St.Edmunds.
Lying in 4th place out of 33 teams at the start of play, Dean Little, Keith Flack & Seetahul Dinesh had 5 wins out of 6 against teams from Southern, Kent & Chiltern regions. They also defeated fellow ECR players Sofiane Lachani, Vanessa Webb & Chris Allen who, along with Nick Baxter from Kent, started the day one place ahead of them in 3rd but dropped down to 7th after losing 2 games.
Little, Flack & Dinesh’s best performance was a very impressive 13-4 win against number 1 seeds Baker, Rousseau, Bavazzano & Claydon from London, West Midlands & Chiltern regions. This ensured they held their position of fourth going into the third round.
Moving up to 10th place from 16th after 4 wins were Vince Schofield, Adam Buxton, Dave Mark & Simon Bird. Their best win of the day was a 13-0 trouncing of a Chiltern/ Northern combination, Miles Gooda, Luke Howard & Richard Marston, where Schofield showed glimpses of his former triumphs of the 80’s as a top junior player.
Kim Lachani playing with Patrick Summers & Lisa Edmondson from East Midlands, had two wins and finished in 23rd place.
Kim has also performed well in the Ladies Triples Qualifiers where along with Jennifer & Corinne Cooter & Tracy Turner from Kent, she has finished in 6th place. The top 8 teams will now play off to determine who will represent Great Britain at the Ladies World Championships.
