EPA CLUB KNOCK OUT Round 5
Colne Angel 4 v Engine PC (Chiltern) 1
Local club Colne Angel have reached the last eight of the National
KO Cup. They defeated Engine PC from the Chiltern region 4-1 and progress to the finals which will
be held at Whittlesey in March.
Colne Angel who play at the Earls Colne Leisure Centre started well with Viv Middleton-Sams, Dave Mark
& Chris Parr winning the opening triples 13-8 against Jeremy Huntley, Steph Britten & Derek Northend.
Kim & Sofiane Lachani & Simon Bird gave Colne the upper hand with a second triples win 13-5 over Danny
Sims, Phil Winston & Miles Gooda.
The format then changed to doubles with Colne again taking first blood, Middleton-Sams & Bird teaming
up to defeat Britten & Northend. This win saw Middleton-Sams keep her 100% record in the competition
with 11 straight wins.
The Engine pulled a game back when Sims & Winston won 13-6 against Mark & Parr to take the score to 3-1
overall.
Next up were the husband & wife pairing of Kim & Sofiane Lachani who went 5-10 down to Huntley & Gooda.
Colne then managed to win a point and gain control of the coche which they immediately started to throw
long. This brought Sofiane Lachani's excellent shooting to the fore and they quickly got back into the
game and won 13-11.
This killed the match and the last 2 triples were conceded.
The top 6 qualifying clubs are Mistral PC (Northern), Colne Angel PC (Eastern), Plough and Chequers
PC (Kent), Tovil PC (Kent), Crondall PC (Southern) and Cobbetts Boules Club (Southern), 2 clubs
will join them in the finals from the repercharge, to playoff in the “Final Knockout” stage held at
Whittlesey on the 16th March.
This final stage will decide which team will go forward to
represent the English Pétanque Association in the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP)
European Cup for Club teams event.
