3rd ECR Qualifier, Rayne Swan, 29th June
‘Due to bad handwriting on one of the score sheets, a figure was misread which affected the points difference and the correction has resulted in teams 6 & 7 swapping places’.
The 3rd and final ECR Qualifier took place at Rayne Swan and in
gorgeous weather the teams fought for the top 8 places.
Coming in at the number 1 spot after
winning 12 games overall are Chris Allen, Vanessa Webb, Michelle Tarbun & Kim Lachani. They lost
one game on the final day, 13-7 to Keith Flack, Gus Garland & Tim McConnon who themselves lost 1,
13-4 to Onley, to finish in 3rd place.
Victorians have had a superb competition and their consistent displays, and being unbeaten on the
final day; have led to a deserved 2nd place.
Frank Britt, Simon Bird & Graham McDougall had a poor final day losing 3 of their 5 games but still
finished in 4th place.
In 5th place and representing the region in the top 8 for the first time are Adam Buxton, Lee Dodge &
Vince Schofield with a good 4 out of 5 wins on the day.
Towers 2 had 3 wins & Eric Taylor, Barrie Lucas, Audrey Lucas and not forgetting Peter Way, won 8
games in total to finish in 6th place.
7th place is taken by Bill Eve, Simon Doble & Alan Brazier who also won 8 but with a poorer games
difference, and last but not least an excellent 8th place for the Thorley team of Jon Sellars, Mike
Smith, Martin Flintoff & Ian Groves with 7 wins.
It looks like the region might stand a good chance in the Challenge trophy this year as some poor
overall displays by some of our more experienced players means they missed out on the top 8, but if
they perform well at Brean it could be our first Challenge title since 2003.
Towers 1 finished 9th so John Cartwright, Bob Lawrence, Colin Roper & Kevin Ambrose will be team 1.
Team 2 are Onley, Trevor & Daniel Blows & Tracey Austin.
Viv Middleton-Sams, Colin Sams & Dave Mark are Team 3 and Team 4 are Pat Watts, Lorne Gibson,
Beryl Gibson & Lionel Alcorn.
Close runners–up were the Feering Bell team of Dave Pearse, Tom Winter, Dave & Karen Bird, who
enjoyed the experience and hope it will put them in good stead for another crack at it next year.
Last but not least were Julie Constable, Daphne Barrow, Wendy Ridehalgh & Trevor Turner who finished
the day on a high with a good 13-11 win.
