The second Eastern Counties Region Petanque qualifier took place at Earls Colne Recreation Club and there were a few surprises along the way.
The very experienced team of Lorne Gibson, Pat Watts, Lionel Alcorn & Beryl Gibson are in a surprisingly lowly 11th place after managing only 2 wins. One of those was by the skin of their teeth against the newcomers from Feering Bell, Dave Bird, Karen Bird & Tom Winter who gave a great performance and only just lost 13-11.
Thorley’s team of Ian Groves, Martin Flintoff & Mike Smith had a very good day with excellent wins over YPC & Lorne’s team and only just losing 13-12 to Victorians to finish in 5th place.
Towers 2, Eric Taylor, Barrie Lucas & Colin Roper, started the day badly losing their first 3 games. They then finished strongly to lie in 6th place with 13-11 wins over two of the better teams in YPC (Dean Little, Keith Flack & Tim McConnan) & Frank Britt, Graham McDougall & Simon Bird.
Ritesh Lungut, Dave Tarling, Phil McCrostie & Andy Wilmot won 4 games for Victorians and are in a superb 2nd place behind the unbeaten leaders Chris Allen, Vanessa Webb & Michelle Tarbun.
