The Eastern region was represented at the England Petanque Association's Over 50's Pairs championship by Clare Courtney (Rayne Swan) and Trevor Blows (Onley Arms).
The event, at Lordswood, Kent, started well with wins over the Isle of Wight, 13-4, and Oxshott, Surrey 13-2.
In the third round, they played top seeds Hartley, Kent and quickly went 0-8 down on a difficult terrain. Despite a good fightback, they could not prevent a 8 -13 defeat.
Round four saw their worst performance of the day, losing 7-13 to Whitnash, Leamington Spa.
In the final round, a 13 - 9 defeat of a second Isle of Wight pairing left the Braintree league duo with three wins on the day.
A good performance from Clare and Trevor who have never played together before and a possible top ten finish.
The event was won by GB internationals Lee and Angie Jamieson from Worthing.
