ECR Singles 14th October
The Eastern Counties Region singles tournament took place at Theydon
Bois and Simon Doble from Harlow had an excellent tournament defeating some talented players to win
the trophy for the first time.
There was a good turnout for the event which was held at Victorians PC and Doble progressed from the
mornings group stages despite losing to the reigning champion Keith Flack 13-8.
In the semi-finals Doble fought back from 10-3 down in a very tough game against Ritesh Lungut. At
one point he looked to be out of the competition when Lungut was leading 11-9. Lungut when holding 1,
just needed to point his last boule in for game. Instead he knocked his opponents boule on to make the
score 11-10 & Doble seized the chance to take the game 13-11.
In the other semi Veeraj Bannewari won 13-8 against Aris Savvides from Potters Bar. Savvides had come
through the group stages unbeaten and this was his only loss of the day but a crucial one.
It was a surprisingly comfortable final win for Doble who played at the top of his game throughout to
defeat Bannerwari 13-6.
Savvides went on to defeat Lungut 13-9 for 3rd place.
Naheb Khodabux (Potters Bar) won the Plate final by default over Dean Little (Victorians)
