The local Petanque season got under way on Sunday with the 1st Eastern Counties Regional Qualifier held at Towers PC, South Weald.
The Onciders team of Simon Bird, Michelle Tarbun & Sofiane Lachani were in unstoppable form winning all of their games and never looking troubled.
Several teams only lost 1 game throughout the days play including Chris' Angels. Chris Allen, Vanessa Webb & Kim Lachani were undone by Lorne's Team. Lorne Gibson, Pat Watts, & Lionel Alcorn had an excellent 13-11 win.
Victorians had a very good day and should have been unbeaten. Ritesh Lungut, Andy Wilmot, Dave Tarling & Phil McCrostie were leading 12-2 against Towers 3 (Bob Lawrence, John Cartwright & Kevin Ambrose) before letting it slip away 13-12.
Another Towers team did very well, Eric Taylor, Jeff Tyler & Peter Way as Towers 1, won 5 of their games.
YPC (Dean Little, Keith Flack & Matt Smith) surprisingly lost 3 of their games but will hope to make up ground at the next two qualifiers.
The longest game of the day has to be between Potters Bar & Colne Angels. Aris Savvides, Janice Alphonse, Naheb Khodabux & Margaret Chatfield won a hard fought game against Viv Middleton-Sams, Dave Mark & Wendy Ridehalgh. At 12-10 up Viv Middleton-Sams failed to point in for game letting the opposition in for a 13-12 win in a game that lasted 1hr 40 mins.
