Rayne Swan Charity Doubles 25th September
In glorious weather 20 teams took part in the Rayne Swan Charity Doubles in aid of the
Epilepsy Society and Support Dogs Charities.
The winners were Adam Buxton and Matt Smith who defeated up and coming
youngsters Francois Bourquin and Harry Waldie in the final.
Buxton and Smith looked like no hopers after losing their first game 13-0 in just 3 ends, but it obviously gave them the
boost needed to concentrate on their play. They had a very good 13-6 win in the semi final over previous winners Dean Little and Keith Flack.
Bourquin and Waldie played very well to reach the final including a 13-8 defeat of the very experienced Peter Ward and John King from Peterborough.
Buxton and Smith did not take the youngsters lightly and focused from the start to take a strong lead which Bourquin and Waldie could not make up, finally losing 13-4.
Plate winners were Aris Savvides and Dawn Bourquin from Victorians PC, Theydon Bois. The pair waltzed into a 12-2 lead with
Savvides in excellent shooting form. Then came a great comeback by the legend Simon Bird who was playing with newcomer Dave Tatum.
Beginner Tatum pointed very well which helped them close the gap and eventually level the game at 12all. It was Bird who had the
opportunities to claim the game but Savvides and Bourquin held on for the 13-12 win.
Consolage winners Ken and Barbara Kilbey from Thorley PC, Bishop’s Stortford defeated Colin Sams and Roz Lingard 13-10. It was an
excellent effort by Sams and Lingard, who was playing her first ever game, and they only just missed out in a close match.
Thanks to all who took part and £460 was raised for the two charities.
