EPL Triples at Rayne Swan PC 10th July

The Essex Petanque League held their inaugural Triples tournament at Rayne Swan on Sunday and the Onley team from Stisted were crowned champions.
It was a fun but competitive days play with three teams winning 3 out of 5 games but only Rayne Swan 2 getting through to the final unbeaten.
Rayne Swan 1, Clare Courtney, Wendy Ridehalgh and Laszlo Szilyagi started very badly with a 13-1 loss to Feering Sun. They went on to have good wins against Bocking, Thorley and the eventual winners Onley and finished 4th. The Sun, Tom and Andy Winter and Trevor Turner, had the good start against the Swan, and two more wins saw them in to 3rd place. Runners-up were Rayne Swan 2. Colin Sams, Lorne and Beryl Gibson went 8-4 down in the final but good shooting from Sams and accurate pointing from the Gibson’s got them back into the game to go 9-8 up. It then became a very close game with both teams shooting and pointing well when at 10-11, the Onley team of Tracey Austin, Trevor and Dan Blows won the match after Dan Blows shot with his last boule to claim the three needed.
