The unique date of 10.10.10 proved fortunate for the third annual Doubles in memory of Joe Doble: fine weather and a good attendance with some excellent competitive play from London, Kent and Chiltern Region visitors against our own teams.
Simon Doble and Rob Fox beat Victorians team of Dave Tarling and François Bourquin in the Main seizing the final 3 points for a 13-10 win. Simon won back the trophy which he originally presented for the competition and which for two previous years had been held by Raj and Dinesh.
Two London teams met in the Plate final, Martin Baker and Nick Goodheart beating Mike and Monty Quaia 13-10 in another closely fought match.
The consolage saw Dawn Bourquin and Frank Withers (Potters Bar) win a comfortable 13-7 against Derek Sutton and Derek Gutteridge (Towers). Cash prizes and wine were presented to winners and runners-up and a donation to Simon’s nominated Harlow-based charity, The Michael Roberts Trust.
