BDPL Doubles at Bocking PC 18th July
The Daniel Robinson and Sons Braintree and District Petanque
League Doubles tournament took place at Bocking PC and was won by Wendy Ridehalgh (Colne Angel)
and Tracey Austin (Onley, Stisted).
Ridehalgh and Austin progressed to the semi finals of the Main after winning all their Group
A games including a 13-0 win over Ian Morgan and Tom Winter from Feering Sun.
Lorne Gibson and
Harry Waldie (Rayne Swan) reached the semi finals after coming second in Group B. A 13-4 score line
belies some good play by the Rayne Swan pair as Ridehalgh and Austin progressed into the final.
Clare Courtney and Colin Sams (Rayne Swan) were runners up in Group A and played the winners of
Group B who were Dave and Jack Pearse (Feering Bell).
In their semi final Courtney and Sams showed no mercy, defeating the Pearse’s 13-0 in four ends.
The final saw Courtney and Sams holding 5 on the first end when Sams pointed in with his last boule
and moved the coche back to give the opposition 1. This unfortunately stunned the Swan team and
Ridehalgh and Austin confidently moved into an 11-0 lead with some excellent play by both ladies.
The Swan pair made a token recovery getting 5 points before losing out 13-5.
In the plate semi finals Andrew Winter (Feering Sun) and Dave Bird (Feering Bell) defeated
Beryl Gibson and Lizzie Bollington (Rayne Swan) 13-8. They met Trevor and Nikki Blows (Onley, Stisted)
in the final who defeated Ian Morgan and Tom Winter (Feering Sun) in their semi 13-5. Despite
some good play by the ever improving Winter backed up by the tenacious Bird, the Stisted pair
came out on top 13-8.
