Rayne Swan Charity Doubles, Sunday 27th September

There was an excellent turnout for the Rayne Swan Charity Doubles with 24 teams entered. Play started with 4 groups of 6 with the top two from each qualifying for the main competition. Frank Britt (Chequers) and Adam Buxton (Rayne Swan) were in top spot in Group 1 but after a 13-0 win in the q/f came unstuck in the semi’s against Marion Halsey and Phil Boarder from Bury St. Edmunds, the runners up in Group 3. The other semi finalists were the winners of Group 3 Dean Little (Theydon Bois) & Keith Flack (Rayne Swan) who met the fancied Chris Allen and Nessie Webb (Newmarket). Little and Flack won the semi and once Little found some shooting form, went on to defeat Halsey and Boarder in the final 13-8.

The 3rd and 4th placed teams in the groups contested the Plate competition. Simon Bird and Julie Constable (Colne Angel) progressed comfortably through to the final with 13-4 and 13-5 wins but came unstuck in the final against Sue and Edd Wright from Colchester. The Wrights took a 9-0 lead before Bird and Constable showed their form but it was too late and they lost out 13-8.

Two old campaigners made it through to the Consolage final where they showed some form of old in defeating Karl Scott and Carole Berry. Deke Gardiner and Terry Clarke from Halstead went into an 11-0 lead. Two carreaus in a row saw them gain 6 on one end to take the opposition out and they went on to win 13-3.

The event is run in memory of Alison Lingard and the proceeds are shared between the National Society for Epilepsy and the Support Dogs Charity. £450 was raised and sincere thanks go to all who contributed, especially Roz Lingard, Fairfax Motors who supplied all the trophies, Daniel Robinson & Sons who supplied prizes and Roy House, Rayne Swan PH who provided the venue and prizes. Thanks also to Simon Bird and helpers who ran the competition.
