Victorians Open Doubles, Sunday 11th October
In memory of Joe Doble
Nineteen teams took part in the competition beginning at 10,45 on
a warm sunny morning and with the last game ending in chilly darkness at 8.30.
Eight teams went through to the Main.
Dinesh and Raj won the first semi (13-0) against Simon and
Geoff.
In the second semi, the Kent team of Fred and Rachid beat Ritesh and Phil (13-8) in a
close-fought contest.
Dinesh and Raj won the Joe Doble Trophy for the second year running and a
purse of £150.
Runners up received £80.
The losing semi-finalist teams each received £40.
In the Plate, two juniors, Chris and Gavin, were enlisted to even up the number of teams and produce
two knock-out competitions.
Semi-finalists Aris and Janice beat Clare and Naheb (13-10).
Dave and Dave (Feering) beat Doug and Dave (D.S.Brits) (13-7).
A dramatic final took place under
the lights, shortened by agreement to 9 points, with Aris and Janice narrowly winning against Dave
and Dave (Feering) 9-6.
Winning team received £40 and the runners-up £20.
The Club thanks everyone for their tolerance and spirited participation and vows never to have
leagues of five again!
