Daniel Robinson & Sons BDPL Triples 12th July
The Daniel Robinson & Sons Braintree League Triples tournament
took place on Sunday at Colne Angel PC, Earls Colne. Home advantage played a big part in proceedings
as the one entry from the home club went all the way to final and took the trophy. Simon Bird, Dave
Mark and Wendy Ridehalgh started the day with a crushing 13-0 defeat of Feering Sun and remained
unbeaten to win their group.
Feering Bell also qualified for the main competition, only losing one
game in the morning.
In the second group Rayne Combi finished top winning all their games with
Onley 2, Dan Blows, Beryl Gibson & Derek Roughton, finishing 2nd.
The Rayne Combi side of Matt Waldie, Graham Hardy and Clare Courtney won a close game against Feering
Bell 13-9 to move into the final where they met Colne Angel who defeated Onley 2 13-7. After being
close in the first couple of ends it soon became a one-sided affair with Colne taking the title 13-2.
Feering Bell took third place after beating Onley 2 13-10.
In the Plate competition the Onley 1 team of Lorne Gibson, Trevor Blows & Lizzie Bollington were too
strong for the rest of the teams and ran out the winners with Feering Sun runners-up.
It was the last appearance in the BDPL for Onley member Derek Roughton. Derek was a founder member of
the Onley club in 1976 and had just returned to playing after a few years absence and was thoroughly
enjoying himself. I am sure he will be missed but we hope he will find a club in his new neighbourhood
in Lincolnshire and keep playing for a few more years yet.
