Towers Big Money Doubles 22nd June
Towers Petanque Club at South Weald held their money doubles
competition and some good play was to be seen on a sunny but windy day.
The two eventual finalists started the day as they meant to go on with both teams getting a 13-0 win.
Rachid Hannache and Daniel Hill were in unstoppable shooting form throughout the mornings play and
reached the final unbeaten.
Dean Little & Keith Flack had a similar morning but lost their game in round 5 against PYC from Bury
St Edmunds 13-3.
The only other team to go through to the playoffs unbeaten were Simon Doble & Ritesh Lungut but they
lost out in the semi-finals to Little & Flack and finished 3rd after defeating Adam Buxton & Clare
Courtney who had been comfortably beaten 13-4 by Hannache & Hill.
The final was a very intense and tactical game and the final score did not reflect this with
Little & Flack winning 13-4. They took control by playing a 9-10 metre coche and Little shot
sublimely backed up by Flack’s accurate pointing. The Victorians pair, the current English champions,
appear to be in unstoppable form at the moment.
