The Daniel Robinson & Sons Ltd sponsored Braintree & District Petanque Triples Tournament took place on Sunday at Rayne Swan Petanque Club.
Holders Bill Eve & Frank Britt from Chequers PC, Great Tey & Adam Buxton (Rayne Swan) defended their title in superb form, going through the days play undefeated with none of the opposition even getting into double figures.
The opening game of the day saw Rayne Swan 9-0 down to local rivals Rayne Cock but they turned it around to win 13-9.
The Cock went on to win a very close game against Onley Arms from Stisted. Good pointing by both teams meant an even match all the way through, but Mark Sainsbury, Scott Wilsdon & Paul Linehan just squeezed home 13-11. This meant they appeared in the Main final for the third year running, with Rayne Swan & Onley battling for the Plate.
Both finals were closely contested but Rayne Cock were unlucky for the third year in a row, losing to Eve, Britt & Buxton 13-5.
Rayne Swan’s team of Lorne & Beryl Gibson, & Tom Smith defeated Trevor & Daniel Blows & Derek Roughton from Onley 13-11 to win the Plate.
