The Daniel Robinson & Sons Ltd Braintree & District Petanque League held their Doubles tournament at Earls Colne Leisure Centre.
There were no real surprises in the morning group stages, with the favourites progressing into the main competition.
There was a good performance by Rayne Swan’s Trevor Turner & Beryl Gibson who defeated Colne Angel’s Dave Mark & Wendy Ridehalgh 13-11 in their last game of the morning. However, their joy did not last, as they were then beaten 13-0 in the KO stages by Rayne Swan’s Adam Buxton & Lorne Gibson.
Last year’s winners Buxton & Gibson continued their good performance with a 13-10 semi-final win over Frank Britt & Lloyd Herman from Chequers PC, Gt Tey. They were to meet Simon Bird & Chris Parr (Colne Angel) in the final, who had a comprehensive 13-4 semi-final win over Simon Doble & Bill Eve (Chequers).
Holders Buxton & Gibson could not repeat their win of 2007 and lost out to Bird & Parr 13-7 in an excellent final.
The Plate competition final was contested by two father & son pairings. Dave & Jack Pearse (Feering Bell) beat Trevor & Daniel Blows from Onley PC, Stisted 13-10.
