At last the sun put in an appearance at the Tower Arms for the Towers Arms Open Doubles on Sunday 5th August and , “Surprise, surprise!” it stayed around all day!
What a contrast to earlier competitions in the rain and mud………..and amusing to find players searching for the pistes in the shade.
Perhaps because of their previous experiences, or the fact that the date fell at the height of the holiday season, there were only eight competing teams.
However, it did enable the organisers to arrange for all teams to play each other, a total of seven games in all, and players were suitably tired and ready to go home when the competition ended at 6.30 pm.
The winners were: Alan Brazier and Simon Doble (won 7), Keith Flack and Dean Little came second (won 5) and Eric & Pauline Taylor were third (won 4).
Please make a note in your diaries for the Ashton/Thorogood Open Doubles on Sunday 7th October. We would like to see the terrains full.”
