The Bird Gardiner Pairs took place at the Griffin PH at Halstead and between the occasional showers it was a good tournament in lovely sunshine.
The morning group stages saw Deke Gardiner & Paul Sparkes from Griffin PC & Clare Courtney & Tom Smith from Rayne Swan PC both progress through to the main competition with 3 wins each in Group 1.
Group 2 winners & runners up were Dave Mark & Wendy Ridehalgh (Colne Angels) with Aris Savvides & Janice Alphonse from Potters Bar.
Savvides & Alphonse didn't look troubled in their 13-7 semi-final win over Courtney & Smith on a very difficult pitch while the other semi was a much closer affair with Mark & Ridehalgh just defeating Gardiner & Sparkes 13-7.
The final saw Mark & Ridehalgh race into an 11-4 lead only to let the Potters Bar pair gradually work their way back into the game, but they held on to win 13-8.
The Plate competition was won in another hard fought contest by Graham Brewer & Dennis Smith (Rayne Swan) 13-11 over Jon Sellars & Ken Kilbey from Thorley PC.
Losing semi finalists were Simon Bird & Julie Constable (Colne Angels) & Daphne Barrow(Colne Angels) who partnered Jed Clarke from Griffin PC.
