Towers Petanque Club
Visit by Merckeghem to Towers PC
Every year the Towers Petanque Club meet up with the Club Petanque
de Merckeghem, which is in a small village in Northern France.
This year it was our turn to be hosts and our 23 guests arrived by coach from Dover at midday
on Saturday. During the afternoon we played 4 rounds of 8 games and then adjourned to the
Brookweald Cricket Club who provided a barbeque for us.
Many of our hosts treated our guests to a full English breakfast on Sunday morning. Then we played
4 more rounds.
The Towers claimed a comfortable margin of victory, winning 41 to 15. Over the weekend, the best
Towers team was a combination of Howard Sullivan, Peter Way, Kevin Ambrose and Bob Lawrence,
who won all 7 games. The best French team was Richard, his son Nicholas and Matthieu, who
won 5 out of 7 games.
We adjourned to Eagle Hall for a lunch buffet and prize giving and some dancing. This was a
very successful weekend both on and off the piste, and greatly enjoyed by all.
