Onley Petanque Club
December 30th Triples
Fifteen players braved the elements to play at the Stisted village
hall terrain on December 30th.
A new format, with teams of three alternating partners to play three
doubles games over a limited number of ends, ensured that everyone was kept busy during the three
hour session. With Denise Blows of the Onley club supplying hot drinks and soup throughout the
morning, the players got to grips with the new super 7 competition.
Both Bocking A and B teams
lost their opening games to Feering (Dave and Jack Pearse, Tom Winter) and Sam’s team
(Clare Courtney, Simon Bird and youngster Sam Newman).
The home side (Daniel Blows, new
junior Josh Newman and Terry Newman in his first competitive game) won their first two
matches, with Feering also looking strong. It was also a chance for ECR coach Simon Bird to
give new junior prospect Josh a few tips on the game.
At the end of the session, with the cold
weather closing in, only Feering and Onley were unbeaten but time did not permit a final shootout.
An interesting new playing format which will be developed for a future twenty20 type competition.
The Onley club thank those who braved the weather to play on the day and help raise funds for the club.
